Best Performance

Despite appearing in four World Cups since the turn of the century, Serbia last appeared in the European Championships in 2000 when they were still Yugoslavia, where they were dumped out of the tournament in the Round of 16 after losing 1-6 to the Netherlands. Serbia managed to finish second in qualifying behind Hungary, but marginally ahead of neighbours Montenegro, and there is certainly room to improve considering they only won half their matches. They are a side that have been dumped out of the group stages in each of their last four World Cup campaigns, and are likely to be one of the underdogs in this group too.

Player to Watch

Aleksandar Mitrović

Still only 29 years old, if feels like we have talking about this man for a long time. Mitrovic is easily his nation’s top scorer in their (short) history with 57 goals scored, almost 20 more than the next placed side. He is 8th in the all time number of appearances for Serbia too, and he will be sure to be looking to score a few more in this tournament. He has an astonishing 22 goals in 22 games for his club too, and was the nation’s top scorer in qualifying with 5.
