Curacao becomes the smallest nation by both population and area to qualify for the tournament when they topped their group ahead of Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and Bermuda in an unbeaten campaign across ten games. Granted, they may not get a much better opportunity to make it what with Mexico, USA and Canada all not taking part due to the fact they are all cohosts, but they will still be delighted to have qualified for their first ever World Cup. They have only been playing as an independent country since 2011. They failed to get out of their group in the CONCACAF Gold Cup last year, though a draw against Canada would have been the highlight of that tournament. They topped their Nations League B campaign too, meaning that they will appear in League A in the next edition, but first thing is first, they take on the world’s best this summer.

Player to Watch
Tahith Chong
Tahith Chong

Chong featured for the Netherlands squad at youth level, with caps at U15, U16, U17, U19, U20 and U21 level. But in 2025, he switched allegiance, and has since appeared for Curacao four times, with two goals to his name already. Both of those came in a crucial qualifier against Bermuda which they went on to win 3-2. Formerly at Manchester United, Chong has featured for Luton in the Premier League, and most recently Sheffield United in the Championship where he helped them to a midtable finish. The defensive midfielder will have a crucial role anchoring the center of the pitch and dictating play against some of the best sides in the world.
