Netherlands had few problems getting through their qualification group, recording six wins and two draws and finishing the campaign three points clear of Poland. Their 27 goals scored was bettered by only two other sides, Norway and Belgium, and momentum is certainly on the side. Whilst not boasting a wealth of world class talent as they once had a generation or two ago, Netherlands were only bested by eventual champions Argentina in a penalty shootout in Qatar four years ago, whilst they managed to make it to the semi finals of the European Championships two years ago when they were defeated by England thanks a stoppage time goal. The Oranje will certainly be one of the sides to keep an eye on this summer.

The Liverpool legend is widely regarded to be one of the best defenders in the world, some even say of all time, but his form has taken somewhat of a dip in the 2025/26 season. It was a season where Liverpool struggled all over the pitch, but the 34 year old captain for club and country will have his work cut out this summer. In what is likely to be his last World Cup, he will want to navigate his team all the way - Netherlands are three times runners up, but could he take them one step further?
