Algeria failed to qualify from Africa in the previous two World Cups, but they made light work of topping their group this time around. In Group G, they won eight out of ten games to finish seven points clear of second placed Uganda and for only the fifth time in their history, they made it to the biggest tournament in world football. Last time around, in Brazil 2014, they made it out of the group stages for the very first time where they were knocked out by eventual winners Germany in the Round of 16 in extra time. Earlier this year, Algeria were knocked out by Nigeria in the quarter finals of the African Cup of Nations where they had looked so impressive in the Group Stages, winning all three games. It certainly feels like they will be one of the dark horses to watch out for this summer.

Player to Watch
Rayan Ait Nouri
Rayan Ait Nouri

After four years playing at Wolves, Ait Nouri made the move to Manchester City last summer where he has become a mainstay in the solid City defence this season. Despite having featured for France at U18, U19 and U21 levels, Ait Nouri switched his allegiances in 2023 and has represented Algeria since. He will turn 25 years old just before the start of the tournament, and though young, has a lot of top level experience to share with his international team mates.
