Tunisia made very light work of qualifying for their third successive World Cup, winning nine and drawing one of their ten qualifiers to win the group by thirteen clear points. They didn’t concede a single goal in that run, and on first glance look to be one of the strongest nations from the continent to be taking part in this summer’s tournament. But their African Cup of Nations run earlier this year would have been a disappointing outing by their standards. After stumbling through to the Round of 16 after gathering 4 points in the group stages and finishing runners up, Tunisia were dumped out also immediately, falling to Mali despite the fact they played more than half of the match against 10 men. They missed three of their five penalties in the shootout and though they bettered their group stage defeat two years earlier, form is not on their side going into this tournament.

Player to Watch
Ellyes Skhiri
Ellyes Skhiri

With 81 caps for his country, captain Skhiri is one of the most experienced members of the Tunisia squad, and the defensive capabilities of the 30 year old Frankfurt midfielder was one of the main reasons behind their impressive qualifying campaign when they didn't concede a single goal. Having never escaped from the group stages in six attempts, this could the greatest opportunity for Skhiri to lead his team to the knockout stages for the first time ever.
