Egypt qualified for their fourth ever World Cup with relative ease, finishing unbeaten and top of Group A in African qualifying by winning 8 of their 10 games and ending the campaign five points clear of second placed Burkina Faso. Having missed out on qualifying four years ago, they will certainly be looking to better their last outing at the tournament in Russia when they lost all three group games and it was a result that meant that Egypt are still yet to ever win a game at the World Cup. Egypt finished in fourth place in the African Cup of Nations earlier this year, losing to a late Sane goal against Senegal in the semi finals and then on penalties to Nigeria in the third-fourth place playoffs.

Salah needs little introduction - he is the superstar of the squad, and has been an incredible servant to his club, Liverpool, where he became the high scoring foreign player ever in the Premier League earlier this season. But Salah, by his ridiculously high standards, had a disappointing year, and will have left the club by the time the tournament starts. He is only a couple goals short of becoming his nation’s highest ever goalscorer, and in what is likely to be the 34 year old’s final World Cup, he will surely want to go out with a bang.
