Despite having qualified for the previous 2 European Championships, Scotland have found it difficult to qualify on the world stage, but at long last they will be joining the world’s elite for the first time since 1998. Though it had seemed that their hopes had been dashed following defeat in Greece in their penultimate game, only a win at home to Denmark would have seen them top Group C in qualifying. Drawing 2-2 going into the closing stages of the game, Scotland managed to conjure up two goals in stoppage time to delight the home crowd, where their group stage is comprised of two other sides that they faced in their last World Cup campaign from 1998, Brazil and Morocco. With some of the best third placed teams qualifying for the next stage of the tournament, can Scotland escape out of the Group Stages at the ninth time of asking? Even in their European Championships history, they have not gotten out of the group stages in four attempts.

Scott McTominay

After a difficult spell at Manchester United, 29 year old McTominay appears to have rediscovered himself at Napoli. He lifted the Serie A trophy last season and even collected the ‘Footballer of the Season’ award for his heroics. He has scored as many goals in two seasons for Napoli as he had during his seven years at Manchester United, and for Scotland, he has been one of the most consistent performers, scoring twice in qualifying and three goals in their Nations League outings.
