Colombia finished in third place in South American qualifying, level on points with Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay, but above all of them mainly thanks to their goal difference. They were the second highest goal scoring side in the table after Argentina, and following their disappointment at having missed out on the Qatar World Cup four years ago, they will be excited to be back in the big time. Colombia were runners up in the Copa America two years ago, losing to Argentina in extra time. They finished above Brazil in the group stages, and didnt lose a single match at the 90 minute mark. In their last World Cup, they were defeated on penalties to England, and they are a side that are immensely tough to break down in major tournaments.

Luis Diaz

Former Liverpool and current Bayern Munich winger Diaz is undoubtedly the star player of the Colombia national side. After 72 caps, Diaz is already the fourth highest goalscorer for his country, and currently at the age of 29, he has time to score enough to propel him higher. Diaz was the top scorer for Colombia during the qualifying campaign with seven goals and will likely be the main threat going forward for a Colombia side looking to emulate the heroics of 2014 when they reached the Quarter Finals. James Rodriguez was the sensation of the nation that year, and is still in the squad this summer in what is likely his final World Cup for Colombia.
