England had an imperious qualification campaign, and they won all eight games without conceding a single goal. It was a campaign that means that England are yet to lose a World Cup qualifier since 2009, but when it comes to major tournaments, England have disappointed time and time again. Gareth Southgate came close, reaching the final, but losing, in each of his last two European Championships, whilst they were eliminated by France in their last World Cup campaign at the quarter final stage, with Harry Kane missing a crucial penalty. Thomas Tuchel will have his work cut out this summer with it being 60 years since they last won a major trophy, but their U21 side did win the EUROs in 2023 and 2025, and their U19 side won in 2022, and there will be no better time for them.

There are a lot of questions regarding the starting line up for England, but one thing is for sure, their 32 year old captain will lead the line. He is the all time leading goalscorer for his country, and, should he continue representing his country for one more campaign, is likely to also record the most appearances. Kane has been in sensational form for Bayern Munich in his three seasons at the club, netting over 40 goals in each campaign there. Whilst his pace is not what it used to be, he has adapted his game to help with the assists too, and will be a crucial part of England’s progression in the tournament this summer.
