Best Performance

Following the shock at not qualifying for the World Cup four years ago, Netherlands started their qualification for Qatar 2022 disastrously, losing 2-4 to Turkey in their opening game, but 7 wins from their next 9 games saw them pip the Turks to top spot and automatically make it to the World Cup. The Netherlands have never won the World Cup, though have been runners up three times, most recently in 2010, when they were defeated by Spain, whilst the 2014, they were knocked out in the semi finals by Argentina on penalty kicks. They experienced a disappointing European Championships last year by their standards; after topping their group with three wins out of three, they were knocked out by the Czech Republic in the Round of 16.

Following a disappointing stint at Manchester United, Depay rejuvenated his career at Lyon before moving to Barcelona at the start of the 2021/22 season. The 28 year old had an incredible 2021 his is country too, scoring 17 goals in 16 games and even this year, he scored twice in a 4-1 win in over Belgium in the Nations League, as well as the winner a 3-2 win over Wales a few days later. This player can certainly score goals and will be the main attacking outlet for the Dutch in Qatar.
