Best Performance

Three-time European Champions Spain made fairly easy work of their qualifying campaign, winning seven of their eight games on their way to topping Group A. Spain won the UEFA Nations League a year ago thanks to a penalty shoot-out win against Croatia in the final in Rotterdam, and form is certainly on their side. They’ll want to forget their last World Cup campaign in a hurry though – despite winning their opening match 7-0 against Costa Rica, they drew to Germany and lost to Japan before being dumped out by Morocco in the Round of 16. The golden generation that saw them win three major tournaments back to back between 2008 and 2012 appear to have moved on, and yet they have some quality youngsters coming through, but whether or not this tournament may be a touch too early for them is yet to be seen.

Player to Watch

Rodri

The Man City holding midfielder, who will turn 28 years old during the competition, has been one of the Cityzen’s most important player in recent years in helping them to achieve title after title, including Premier Leagues, FA Cups and the Champions League, but his nation, his teammates are going to need him to emulate those performances if they are to progress in the tournament. He featured in all but one of Spain’s qualifiers.
