Portugal are certainly considered one of the dark horses for this year’s tournament, and in qualifying were the only side to achieve a 100% record after 10 games. They scored thirty six goals and conceded just twice on their way to qualifying for their eighth straight European Championships, a run during which they were knocked out of the semi finals twice, lost in the final once, and finally picked up their first trophy in 2016 in France.

Cristiano Ronaldo
With a world record number of international caps (over 200) and goals (over 120), its unlikely any player will come close to his record for the foreseeable future. At the age of 39 years old, this is surely the last time we will see him at a European Championships. And the captain, who is still featuring regularly for his club in Saudi Arabia has a few records to improve on; he is currently the only player to have scored in 5 European Championships, and his eleven goals in the tournament’s history is already a record. He contributed 10 goals in qualifying too.
