Best Performance

Though they have not qualified for the World Cup since 1998, Romania have featured a little more often in the Euros, mostly recently in 2016 when they were dumped out at the group stages. In their five campaigns in Euro history, Romania have won just one game, against England in Euro 2000, but there a few sides they will feel they can take points off this time around. Romania finished top of the table in an unbeaten qualification campaign that saw them finish above Switzerland, though their goal tally of 16 goals in 10 games is amongst the lowest of all the sides who have made it to the finals. Defensively they were very solid as they conceded just five goals in total, and that could be a vital factor towards how far they go.

Player to Watch

Nicolae Stanciu

The Romanian captain, currently playing his trade in Saudi Arabia has picked up load of trophies for his clubs, including league titles in Romania, Belgium, Czechia and China, and has been in the top three places in the ‘Romanian Footballer of the Year’ award for five straight years. They’re likely to relish their underdog status, but his experience will be massive towards seeing Romania progress to the latter stages of the tournament.
